Starter/Poster image

By Harmless, 1 year ago.

I've got the video playing, and it works superbly. I'd like to have an image appear either right behind the big start triangle, or better yet would be to never have the triangle appear there and have it appear in the command bar with the slide bar/volume as it does once the video is playing.
Either way, the big thing I need is for an image to display even though I need autoplay to be off.
OSFLVAdmin posted in another thread (http://www.osflv.com/topic.php?id=222&replies=5) that you can place an image on the layer within the big play button, if that's my only option could someone give me a hint as to how that would be done? Further in that same thread the guy claims he has it working, but the link that he has listed shows just the black screen.
Thanks for any assistance,
Harmless

@Harmless - Hello, I'm the admin of this site. I am working on functionality right now for a poster image var so that all you would need to do is give the path to your image in the code gen. That may be released today or next week.

All you need to do to put the poster image behind the big play is open the fla file, double click the big_play_button movie clip, then there should be a layer below PlayBTN titled Post Image. You would want to put your image on that layer and align it center. Using this method, you would have to make sure your post image is sized perfectly to your video.

Watch for a new release that has this as a variable. It should be out very soon.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

Just a side note I was thinking of, a very obvious other way to have a poster image would be to edit your video and put the image on frame 1. Thats how the Demonstration player loads the Mario player with the still image. You don't even have to use the real first frame of the video, you could throw in a jpg on frames 1 & 2 and it would play quickly through those then go straight into your video content.

Any progress on this? Our site shows user added content that is automatically generated. Would love to be able to dynamically show the poster image based on the user and the video. Coding PHP is the easy part...all we need is the hook into the player.

There is functionality to add a poster image, but its not quite what you're looking for at this point. Right now, the player looks for a file called "postImage.jpg" next to the player.swf file, if its there, it displays it, if not, you don't see one.

Hopefully at some point in the future, there will be a more sophisticated code hook for the poster image.

Until then, http://www.jambomedia.com/jambocast.html offers a great, affordable player with the functionality you're looking for and much more. We have a variety of different player sizes and styles.

If I use a postImage.jpg it is always directly when loading the player displayed in a wrong "resolution". Meaning that it is stretched over the controls and also over its original size. A few seconds later it is then displayed correctly.
It is kinda annoying. Especially, since there is a size change that can be "watched".

Ah also: Is there now a method to modify the poster image by variable instead of the need of a postImage.jpg?

The poster image was a quick fix. This issue will be addressed with an AS3 release of the player. Until then, I think the AS2 player will remain as is.

Post-Image functionality has been re-vamped and greatly improved in release v3.1 of the player. http://www.osflv.com/?p=624
